Street food is such a big deal in Pakistan nearly all the food that we get is normally street food. The recipes included in my street food Cookaway box are really special to me. They are many of the recipes you would find around Pakistan but slightly changed and elevated a little bit with my own little touch. Starting with the beef chapli kebab based on a northern Pakistani Peshwari kebab that's found on the street sides where big, massive chapli kebab which is basically, the word chapal means a slipper and it is usually the size of a slipper and a pretty big one. And it's normally served on a naan with this gorgeous pomegranate chutney. It is found everywhere in Pakistan now but it did begin its origins in northern Pakistan. Always made with beef, it is delicious and cooks really quickly. The next recipe in my Pakistani street food box is the Cavolo Nero Pakora now we don't have cavolo nero growing up at all but we did have lots of leafy greens that we would normally dip into pakora mixture and fry up so this goes beautifully with a tomato chilli chutney that's with it. The other of course quintessential Pakistani street food is naan. Now naan is a bread but it is sold on the street sides in the street side tandoors. And it goes really well with the chapli kebab and the chutney because normally chapli kebabs always placed on top of a naan so it's a lovely combination with that. And the other recipe that I love the most is the Karachi fried dal. Now this I had growing up when I used to go to work and I would cook. Every lunchtime this recipe or this particular dish would be served to me with my naan and it's a gorgeous recipe which has lovely, tangy, sweet sour flavours and is a beautiful way to eat lentils.

Pakistani street food is a vibrant reflection of the country’s rich culinary heritage, shaped by centuries of regional influences and home-style cooking. From bustling city bazaars to roadside stalls, it celebrates bold spices, fresh herbs and quick, flavour-packed cooking techniques. Many dishes have been passed down through generations, evolving in flavour but staying true to their roots. Today, it remains at the heart of everyday food culture, known for its energy, variety and unforgettable taste.

Hero Ingredients

Fresh Curry Leaves

Fresh curry leaves are a staple ingredient known for its citrusy warm, aromatic flavour used in kitchens across South and Southeast Asia, releasing a distinctive aroma when tempered in hot oil. They bring depth and freshness to sauces, broths, curries and spice blends.

Beef Mince

Finely ground beef mince made from premium-quality beef, sourced from an award-winning family butcher in Wiltshire. Rich, tender and full of flavour, it offers a deep savoury base for a wide range of dishes. Carefully prepared for consistency and quality, it’s perfect for creating hearty, flavour-packed meals with ease.

Pomegranate Powder (Anardana)

Pomegranate powder, made from dried and ground seeds, brings a tangy, slightly fruity acidity to Indian dishes. It’s commonly used to balance rich curries, marinades and chutneys, adding brightness and depth of flavour.

Gram Flour

Gram flour (besan) is made from finely ground chickpeas and is valued for its rich, nutty flavour. Naturally gluten-free, it adds body and structure to batters, sauces and savoury dishes. It brings a warm, earthy depth that enhances both texture and taste.
